Born in the depths of central Johannesburg in 2009, Babatunde grew from a headgear experience into a concept brand. From what started as a 5 cap and 5 cap experiment, the brand has moved into a space of creative optimism / freedom with exciting new products that bring Babatunde back to his teens.
With the goal of being a global brand, Babatunde merges African colors and prints with western shapes. The engravings represent the uniqueness of each human being. Colors are the future. And the forms express the vision and structure of success and prosperity.
Babatunde signifies strong African values and the progression of Africa through Afrocentrism. Each product is unique due to fabric cuts and limited editions.
The word Babatunde is a Yoruba (Nigerian) name. Translated, the word means “the return of the father.” Babatunde means all that is authentically African and the promotion of strong family values. We at Babatunde urge the figure of the father to return to Africa.
Respect yourself and those around you and make decisions that benefit Africa. It is up to us Africans to uplift the continent. All products are proudly handmade in South Africa from African fabrics. Proudly African!
